Open Call for Feminist Creative Work!
Deadline for submissions: Friday 26th May 2023 (midnight BST)
Cultivate is a postgraduate feminist journal based at the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of York, publishing annually. 2023 will be a special issue, focused on embracing our wealth of creative submissions. We have mostly been an online presence, however this time we will be looking to develop a printed limited edition zine from this collaboration.
We are looking for submissions that exist at the intersection of art and feminism – and are open to all works that can be translated two-dimensionally. For example:
– Fibre/textile-based work
– Creative Writing
– Video Work
We acknowledge that we all come to feminism through different pathways, and yet we are all causing ripples that impact and are impacted by the world/s around us. We encourage you to consider what feminism(s) means to you, what you are currently passionate about, what deserves more attention… or even, what are you scared to explore?
If you’d like to submit work to this special issue of Cultivate, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the following:
1. A bio (anything less than approx. 100 words)
2. A brief statement (anything less than approx. 200 words) describing the submitted work
3. The work itself (!):
a. For image-based submissions: High resolution images of the works (Either TIFF or JPG, preferably 300 PPI).
b. For audio/video submissions: Please share a link as well as several screenshots/chosen thumbnail that could be used in the printed issue c. For typed text-based submissions: Ideally not more than two A4 pages (approx 800 words) via Microsoft Word or Google Doc form.
4. Any necessary credits
We will accept submissions of no more than 2 works per person. However, if you’d like to submit a series of work, please share all the images from the series and state whether you would be willing for single works within that series to be published. We are open to submissions from any self-identified feminists, in or out of UoY, and like CWS we pride ourselves on our intersectional feminist values. If there’s any way that we can support your submission or anything further that you’d like to discuss in relation to this open call, please get in touch.
For any questions feel free to contact us via email.
