Gemma Gibson – Editor

Gemma 2I graduated from the University of Winchester with a BA in English literature in 2013 and began my MA in Women’s Studies at the University of York in the same year. Currently I am a PhD student at the Centre for Women’s Studies researching ‘mainstream’ representations of fat women and the popularisation of the ‘body positivity’ movement. Although I am presently finding my way through my first few years of feminist teaching and beginning this journal, feminism has influenced my life beyond academia. At the beginning of the year I became one of two co-founders of the York Feminist Collective. I am very interested in the intersections between activism and academia which is a large part of my motivation behind Cultivate. Email Gemma

O’Dessa Darling – Editor

O'Dessa pic for websiteI am a second year PhD candidate at the Centre for Women’s Studies at the University of York. I received my MA in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Oregon State University and my BA from Hood College in Psychology and Women’s Studies.  Currently, I am researching the role of feminism for contemporary peace activists within the U.K. and the U.S. Specifically, I am focusing on the areas of community, media, childhood, inclusivity, and leadership.  In addition to my own research, I teach undergraduate courses; my experience includes online lecturing in the field of Sociology and Psychology in the U.S., and lecturing for both my current department and the Centre for  Human Rights. Outside of academia, I am involved with peace organisations and enjoy travelling, photography, and all things coffee. Email O’Dessa
